preventing social order collapse

The election day is about to come, just counting our fingers. The presidential candidate debate is closer to the finish line. Off all these events, people always ignored or maybe forget, there is phenomenon that will occur as an excess or result. It is become our major homework as a democratic nation. The political event, election, candidates and vote, require citizen votes. These creating strategies and method gaining the supporters and votes. We can say that political education in Indonesia is doing well, but how about political maturation itself? 

As a democratic nation, every person that eligible have their rights and obligations in election. That is to be voted or to vote their representative. Logically, the election is held to determine who will represent the society interest, common interest in the legislative or executive. This method used because it is impossible at one time and one place, every single person speaks on behalf of their own respective interest, voice their self then make any decision. We cannot imagine how hard it is. That is why the election are one of the most likely ways to pursue their interest. Recently, this entire election contestation has always presented drama, of course that is unpleasant and leaving bitter impression. Actually, we have seen these event frequently since the beginning of the presidential election. The candidates trying all their best gaining sympathy to increase their electability and acceptance, off course to win as many votes as possible. People, in other hand, sometimes admire their candidate too much, using any methods to fight for and defend their idols to the hilt. This phenomenon visible clearly in social media world. We call it Propaganda war. Hopefully, we are not among the perpetrators, finger cross. Maybe the war located as close as in your hand, the WhatsApp group. Too many digital fights, negative attack, and their attempt to bring down and mocking each other. Shall we call it a social collapse or at least we are heading that way? 

According to Wikipedia, societal collapse is the fall of a complex human society characterized by the loss of cultural identity and social complexity as an adaptive system, the downfall of government and the rise of violence. the study of societal collapse is a topic of history, anthropology, sociology and political science. Some say that there are many possible causes drive to societal collapse such as natural disaster, war, famine, economic collapse, and sabotage. A collapsed society may revert to a more primitive state, be absorbed into a stronger society, or completely disappear. How about the democratic party with its candidate campaign? In my opinion, disintegration among the society is too widely open when the democratic party takes place. At least for a while. This creates any potential losses for society, whatever its level. Learning societal collapse is critical. If the society collapse, it has a significant effect on basic structure and function that support society, often resulting to loss order governance, infrastructure and essential services.  

Haman and societies are complex, common factors may contribute to the decline of their system such as economic, environmental, demographic, social and cultural. Here now, there are new weapon called social media. Through its sophistication, speed and reach, a sentence or picture could become the root of social collapse. Also according to wikipedia, the drying of Green Sahara not only turned it into a desert, but also disrupt the monsoon season in Southeast Asia, causing flooding in East Asia which prevented harvest and development of complex culture. It coincided with and causing the decline of Akkadia Empire in Mesopotamia and Indus Valley Civilization. In the sixth century AD, the Eastern Roman Empire stood its ground. If not because of so called Plague of Justinian, the efforts to expanding territory by annexing the Western would have strenghtened the Eastern Empire greatness. Modern scholarship has deduced that the epidemic was caused by Yersinia Pestis bacterium, causing approximately between thirty and fifthy million people die, a significant portion of human population of that time. I am not intended to scare or exaggerate, but the combination of driving politics negatively and digital sophistication can widen gaps and ignite disintegration that are unlikely leading to at least the collapse of social order, if not form to death. 

Politic always find its potential method to raise electability, popularity and acceptance which will be converted into votes that lead to victory and power in the end. Hopefully it is the positive ways, a way that used to ensure the targeted victory is to fight for peoples need and interest, prosperity, security and education. In other side, people who idolize their potential leaders can promote naturally, with the positive way also. However, what is fought for are same, the circumstances and dream are shared desire. Societal collapse that occurred in the past is an expensive lesson that must be heeded together, so that it doesn't happen again
